Match Report

The Lions made it 10 games unbeaten, with a superb 7-1 victory against Pelsall Villa Colts Lions, in atrocious conditions at Willenhall.

I'd add, at this stage, that the minutes silence, in memory of our President, Doug Ellis, who passed away earlier in the week, was impeccably observed by both teams

In terms of the game, I'm being a little over critical in saying we started slowly. In fairness to our opponents, they seemed a little quicker to the ball in the opening 10 minutes and we could easily have found ourselves behind, but for some last ditch tackles.

In terms of the contest, it was effectively over at half time, with Mak (2), Jayan and Luke giving us a slightly flattering 4-1 lead at the break. The performance in the second half was much better. The passing was superb, we won most of the 50/50 balls and added a further 3 goals, scored by Mak (2) and, of course, Paddy! Paddy normally keeps us waiting until April for his goal - at this rate, he'll be in double figures by then!

Daniel - it makes such a difference knowing that we have the best keeper in the league behind a solid defence. Great kicking and superb decision making all morning. Deserved a clean sheet

Patrick - on any other day, he would have been MOTM. Superb in defence, with a flying block the highlight, and excellent when pushed to RMF in the second half, where he got on the end of Noah's corner to score our seventh.

Jakey - a slightly shaky start, but got better as the game went on, winning his battles and distributing the ball well

Louis - solid all game, both at right and left back. Some great passes down the line to set up a number of attacks

Philip - a great morning for Phil. Won plenty of tackles and was calm under pressure playing the ball out superbly

Noah - played right and left midfield. Some great runs down both wings.......a corner to set up Paddy for his goal and, perhaps, should have scored one himself!

Luke - a live wire performance that got a deserved goal. Set up plenty of chances, beating his man on most occasions

Mak - not much that I can write would do his performance justice. Superb from the off. His second goal was breathtaking. Has now scored 7 in 2 games. A deserved MOTM

Jayan - another who, had it not been for the display above, would have been in the running for MOTM. Plenty of tricks and pace to beat the defence.....and another deserved goal

Will - a superb second half, when our Midfield really got on top. Deserved a goal for his efforts

Ethan - see above. Won countless tackles, ran with the ball, had a rasping drive go narrowly over and set up plenty of chances

Our unbeaten start to the season sees us move up to 3rd in the League, behind next weeks opponents Tipton Youth Lions (1st on 13 points) and Holy Name Manor (2nd on 13 points). We're 2 points behind, with a game in hand.

We've got tougher games ahead but, if I know the Lions, they'll rise to the challenge, as they always have! Well done boys
