Match Report

Another Sunday afternoon game saw us against a familiar team, Bentley Comm Panthers. After a couple weeks against some very tough team, the Lions were not in the mood to suffer a third straight loss. From the start they got stuck in and were eager to control the game, which they did well. Overall the possession, commitment and pressure to get the ball back showed a very united side and the Lions ended the game with a decent win. It was difficult to choose a MOTM as the whole team was brilliant all morning and anyone could have got it.

Daniel – Controlled his defence well, instructing them when needed to shape up and pulled out some fine saves especially against one to ones. Unlucky with the goal Bentley scored.

Louis – played lovely in defence controlling the left back position well. As always gets stuck in and made tackle after tackle all game.

Jakey – made sure nothing passed him and if it did, he was sure to follow up. Played with his usual gritty determination.

Noah – defended, and played in midfield. Played up the line numerous times, got our first goal with a long range shot which we always encourage him to do and it paid off. A small blunder from the keeper and the ball crept in. It was that as well as his winger’s display of beautiful crossing which earned him his MOTM. A spirited performance.

Ethan – started in midfield well, obtaining possession well and making some lovely through balls. Switched to defence in the second half which he played very well in even though it’s an unfamiliar role.

Will – Another superb midfield performance with some lovely link up work with the attack. Great running and passing throughout the game.

Mak – Another two goals for our inform striker and nearly a third from a penalty he earned but unfortunately missed.   Ran at the opposition on several occasions creating problems. Close contender for MOTM.

Harrison – has gelled in well with the lions and looks like he’s played with us for many seasons. Non stop running and battling throughout the game and unfortunate not to score on a couple of occasions, once hitting the crossbar.

Luke – Some excellent running and passing saw Luke have a good game and another player who was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet.

Jayan – How Jayan did not score today, Im not sure. Numerous chances, caused trouble all around and created some great chances too. Troubled the opposition with his corners which led to the second goal coming off the head off one of the Bentley players. Another close contender for MOTM.

Was great to see such a lovely team performance today, which showed some neat passing, good vision and a lot of vocal communication when needed. We are 4th in the league but we have a game in hand. Onto next week against Great Barr Harriers, same spirit again boys!! COYL!
