Walsall Phnx Harriers 3 V 4 Lions (U11)
Pitch : Aldridge Airport Pitch 4
Match Report

The Lions were back at Aldridge Airport for our third Cup match. Our opponents, at a wet and windy Airport, were Walsall Phoenix Harriers. Boasting our largest squad of the Season (we've still not managed a full compliment yet), there were selection headaches for the Managers! The extra numbers did, however, give us the luxury of fresh legs.

All 12 Lions were magnificent this morning. Whilst it was backs to the wall stuff at times, we defended as a team and attacked as a team. Whilst Walsall were unlucky, during a 15 minute spell, when we were on the ropes, we earned our win this morning

Daniel - what can I say? Brilliant from the first kick. Great handling and kicking, the obligatory world class saves and total command of his defence. On any other week, he'd have been MOTM (sorry Dan, see note below)

Noah - played CM first half, before returning to his usual position in the second. Stuck to his defensive duties, whilst finding time for a couple of runs and tested the keeper with a long range effort

Ryley - like the rest of the defence, threw his body on the line time after time. Some great link up play with Mak down the right wing

Louis - never shirks a tackle and won his personal battle with the Phoenix winger. Like Noah, switched between defence and midfield effortlessly

Patrick - great to have Paddy back. I'd only intended on easing him back in, with half an hour but, given it looked like he'd never been away, he got some extra minutes. Well done Paddy, a great come back performance

Will - some more of his, now, customary surging runs, really good passing and great tackling, everything you could ask of a CM

Kyle - played CM in the first half and up front, alone, in the second. Whilst he had a steady first half, his second was brilliant. Some lovely touches, great runs and, with a little more luck, would have had the goals his performance deserved. Denied a definite penalty.......

Philip - looked clam and composed on the ball, broke up play time after time and helped set up several attacks

Mak - some great runs, a couple of efforts that deserved better and, when we were penned back, helped out in defence

Luke - another brilliant performance from Luke. Doesn't know the meaning of a lost cause. Some lovely turns and runs in the first half. Another who, with a little more luck, would have found himself on the score sheet

Jakey - played the full 60 and, despite a couple of mistimed clearances, that he got away with, held Phoenix at bay in a terrific rear guard action

Jayan - well, we've been telling Jayan to shoot more.......not, of course, that I'm claiming any credit in his performance today! The four goals were the icing on a great all round performance. Whilst Dan put in a great effort today, there's no way that a player who scores all four, in a 4-3 win can not walk away with the MOTM trophy. Well done Jayan

Plenty still to work on in Training which, of course, returns to Whittington. See you all on Friday. Well done this morning boys. COYL.
