Match Report

Our penultimate Cup match saw us up against Wyrley Wanderers. A full squad, minus the absent Luke, saw the Lions extend their winning streak (in the Cup) to 3 matches. If I ignore the rather sluggish first 5 minutes, the boys were magnificent! Every single player contributed in a great 5-1 win.

Daniel - robbed of a deserved clean sheet when beaten by a last minute penalty (I agree with the whatsapp comment btw). Handling and kicking were superb. Controlled his defence as asked. A captains role

Noah - shook off a dodgy first 5 with some great forward runs and neat link up play. A couple of fantastic crosses deserved a finish

Jakey - a fairly quiet first half in defence. Pushed into Midfield for the second half, he came to life. Tackles, surging runs and, to cap it all, a brilliant goal, beating 3 players and finishing with a powerful shot. A MOTM performance

Patrick - played left and right back and did both brilliantly. Kept it no nonsense in the tackle and, when given freedom, went on a couple of great forward runs

Will - DMF and AMF.....both positions were mastered by Will this morning. Some great tackles and forward runs which, ultimately, brought him a well deserved goal

Jayan - two more goals for a striker in red hot form. Some fantastic link up play and probably hard done by not to end with consecutive hat-tricks

Louis - never lost a tackle. Pushed forwards in the second half and unlucky not to have scored with a half chance

Ethan - like others, a difficult first 5 minutes but, after that, settled well and caused problems for the Wyrley defence

Mak - at times Mak is unplayable. Beat his defender time and time again with some wonderful tricks. His goal was Mak at his best, beating players with ease and staying calm to finish brilliantly

Philip - some great defensive play in the first and some great forward play in the second. So unlucky not to have scored with several bites at a second half chance

Kyle - goals can't be far away - his all round play certainly deserves them! Was brilliant all game. Beat his player with ease and had a hand in at least two of our goals. Keep it up Kyle.

Ryley - allowed us to push Jakey into Midfield which, ultimately, changed the game. Ryley won absolutely everything in the second half. Really calm under pressure and a great understanding with Dan when calmly playing the ball back.

Another great morning for the Lions. The great performances are all down to the boys playing as a team. Some of the passing this morning was the best I've seen. Well done boys. COYL
