Match Report – Sunday 15th October – Four Oaks Panthers  4 v 1 Beacon Colts

Panthers were looking to build on last week’s excellent cup win. Panthers kicked down the slope in the first half and started very strongly. Inside the first minute Seb pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted the ball into the net to put Panthers one up.

Panthers continued to dominate the game and following one of Nathan’s driving runs, a penalty was rightly awarded. Brad did the honours from the spot, coolly side footing the ball into the corner, to give Panthers a deserved two nil lead.

A slight mix up at the back by the Panthers led to an indirect free kick being given for a back pass. Beacon took advantage and got a goal back. Beacon had another chance just afterwards but after that miss, Panthers took control again. After the earning the penalty, Nathan fired home two excellent shots, one right in the top far corner from the edge of the box, to put Panthers in a strong position at 4-1. Panthers continued to dominate for the rest of the half but could not quite get the decisive touch to the half chances created.

The second half saw Beacon kicking downhill and with a stronger wind. However Panthers were rock solid at the back all half and never really gave Beacon a worthwhile chance. Elliot dealt with everything that came to him and kicked well into the wind. He even managed a couple of short goal kicks with Joe, the first of which lead to an excellent move up the wing and a chance in the Beacon box.

The score line did not change in the second half, as Beacon were noticeably more aggressive, leading to several strong tackles. Panthers continued to press forward with Nathan and Henry making excellent forward runs, backed up by clever passing by Brad and Seb.  Nathan, Henry and Joe went close and Ellis nearly capped a great performance by the Panthers with a good chance which went narrowly wide in the last minute.

Panthers notched their third league win of the season, with an excellent all round display. The defence were solid all game, with Dan, Rajan, Elliot and Jay tackling well and not allowing Beacon a chance to use the elements to their advantage in the second half. The midfield dominated with excellent tackling, running and support play from Sam, Aidan and Charlie. Henry and Nathan looked a threat upfront all game and were unlucky not to add a couple of more goals to the 4-1 score.

Nathan picked up the man of match award, for two excellent goals, strong running (despite the Beacon tackling) and good link up play. However for the second week running it was the all round team performance that shone out against a strong and physical Beacon team.
