Four Oaks Boys U15s versus St Nicolas Boys

After the lad’s valiant performance against Sutton Town last week we were all looking forward to the next challenge. We faced St Nicolas Boys, a team enjoying life in the top flight and therefore a team that would give us some idea of what we will face next season (all things being equal).

Four Oaks started brightly and immediately put St Nicolas Boys under significant pressure. It wasn’t long before we took the lead when James headed a loose ball through to Mario who nodded the ball on and fired a shot which was beaten away by the keeper only for Lewis to calmly place the rebound into the back of the net. Soon after James dribbled the ball down the left and crossed to Mario who, despite finding himself on the floor, still managed to squeeze the ball into the back of the net. Wave after wave of Four Oaks attacks followed and as time passed a third goal seemed inevitable. After a solid ten minutes of Four Oaks dominance, Woody leapt into the air on the edge of the box to head the ball towards Mario who’s looping goal-bound header  bounced frustratingly against the crossbar and out for a goal kick. It wasn’t long however before we were rewarded when Pav went on a characteristically strong run and played a one-two with Mario before finishing beautifully by almost passing the ball into the St Nicolas goal.

As the first half drew to a close, a rare St Nicolas excursion into our half resulted in a shot from the edge of the box. Fortunately Dan was equal to the challenge despite being a spectator for most of the game so far.

The second half was less than five minutes old when Mario burst through the St Nicolas defence and crossed to Jake who made no mistake in making it 4-0. Moments later another shot from Mario was saved and Jake went close when he pounced on the loose ball only to see his snap shot hit the post and go wide.

Four Oaks then seemed to take their foot off the pedal allowing St Nicolas back into the game. An attack down the right produced a fierce shot that drew a great save from Dan only for the St Nicolas attack to follow up and score making it 4-1. Their manager could be heard encouraging a continued come back with the immortal words “it’s a Marathon not a Snickers!”.  It wasn’t to be, however, as Four Oaks seemed to wake up again and Jake made it 5-1 following a run down the left channel and a neat shot that gave the keeper no chance. The floodgates then opened as Josh collected the ball on the left wing, ran at the defence, checked back and then stroked a sublime shot from 20 yards into the corner of the St Nicolas goal to make it 6-1.

Moments later, James battled to win the ball on the right flank and threaded an inch-perfect ball into the path of Jake who ran on and, with alarming precision, hammered the ball home to make it 7-1. An eighth followed with an almost carbon copy of the seventh as James again won the ball in midfield and played the ball onto Jake who predictably made no mistake in bagging his fourth and Four Oaks’ eighth.

All in all an impressive performance with our lads defending strongly when necessary, dominating midfield, using the channels effectively and clinically putting our chances away – Great stuff!
